The Lumby Minor Hockey Association and the close-knit hockey community of the Saskatchewan region are grieving a sudden and profound loss. Shawna Rachul of Saskatoon, a dedicated young hockey mom with the U13 Tier 3 Winfield Bruins, passed away unexpectedly this week, leaving her family, friends, and the entire association heartbroken.
“Our lives changed in an instant,” shared her grieving husband. On April 1st, Shawna, just 46 years old, suffered a sudden heart attack. She passed away on April 2nd, leaving behind a world forever altered for her family.

There are no words sufficient to capture the shock and devastation of losing her so quickly. Shawna was described as the vibrant center of her family—a loving partner and an incredible, devoted mother to her 12-year-old son. Her presence on the sidelines, in the rinks, and at the heart of her home was a constant source of love and support.
“The Lumby Minor Hockey Association is deeply saddened to hear of this sudden loss within one of our district’s hockey families,” the organization stated. “Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with the family as they navigate this difficult and unexpected passing.”
For her family, everything now feels different. They are left to find their footing in a world that no longer looks the same, clinging to the memories of a woman whose spirit was intertwined with the sounds of hockey games and the warmth of family life. The Bruins have lost one of their own, and the community mourns a mother gone far too soon.
