On Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at approximately 8:52 pm, a tragic motorcycle accident occurred in St. Charles, Illinois, resulting in the death of a young man. The St. Charles Police and Fire Departments responded swiftly to the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue after reports of a serious crash involving injuries.

According to witnesses, an SUV and a motorcycle collided at the scene. Disturbingly, a witness also reported that the driver of the involved SUV may have fled the scene. Emergency crews arrived promptly and found the motorcyclist, a 27-year-old male from Elgin, injured. Despite immediate medical attention, he was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities quickly located the SUV and the driver nearby. The driver was identified as Morgan Mroz, a 29-year-old resident of West Chicago. Following a thorough investigation, Mroz was placed under arrest. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) assisted with the scene investigation, working to determine the cause of the crash.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved multiple charges against Mroz, including failure to report a crash resulting in death, aggravated DUI causing death, reckless homicide, possession of a controlled substance, and four additional traffic citations. Mroz was subsequently held at Kane County Jail pending a detention hearing.

It is important to emphasize that charges are accusations, and Mroz is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The incident has left the community devastated, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

The loss of Ryan Hresil is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and impaired judgment. The St. Charles Police Department continues its investigation and encourages anyone with relevant information to contact them at 630.377.4435. Our thoughts are with Ryan’s family and friends during this difficult time as justice seeks to be served.
