Long Island DSA is deeply saddened to announce the passing of co-chair of the Healthcare Equity Working Group, Mariana Pineda. She was a tireless advocate whose profound commitment to solidarity touched countless lives in our community.
Mariana was a dedicated organizer and a steadfast champion for Long Island’s most vulnerable. She consistently demonstrated a belief in collective action, shaping our chapter’s culture of mutual aid, compassion, and shared responsibility. Her work was not merely political; it was deeply human, rooted in the conviction that everyone deserves dignity and care.

Her remarkable ability to forge connections and bring people together defined her leadership. Whether strategizing for systemic change or offering direct support, Mariana’s presence was a source of inspiration and strength. She was a true revolutionary, guided by a clear vision of a more just and inclusive world—a vision that energized our work and will continue to guide our efforts.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her absence will be deeply felt throughout our chapter and across the wider community she served so passionately.
