The grandstands and pits of Clinton County Speedway feel emptier today, as the racing community is deeply saddened by the passing of a true icon, Cowboy Jim Kennedy. He passed away this morning at the remarkable age of 91.
More than just a fan, Jim was a vibrant, beloved fixture at the track. For years, the speedway celebrated his birthday and honored his incredible legacy as the oldest active sprint car driver—a testament to his enduring passion and spirit. His presence was a bridge to the sport’s rich history and a lesson in dedication.

Jim’s warmth extended far beyond the cockpit. He was a fan favorite who cherished the supporters and shared a genuine camaraderie with fellow drivers.
