Brian Wakefield Corinthian, BR Death-Obituary: Corinthian-Casuals Legend Has Passed Away
Corinthian-Casuals Football Club has announced the passing of Brian Wakefield, a long-serving and highly respected figure in the club’s history, who died at the age of 91.

Brian’s association with the club began in 1959 when he joined as a goalkeeper. Over the years, he became a central figure within the organization, contributing in multiple roles both on and off the field. He played for the first team during the 1959/60 season and was later selected for the Great Britain Olympic squad for the Rome Games.
Beyond his playing career, Brian remained deeply involved with the club. He managed the first team for two seasons beginning in 1979 and later served as Club Secretary from 1993 to 2004. He also played a key role in developing the Schools XI, a program he supported for many decades.
Widely regarded as one of the finest amateur goalkeepers of his time, Brian also represented several other teams, including Oxford University and Dulwich Hamlet, and was known for his sportsmanship throughout his career.
In recent years, a commemorative fixture was established in his honor, reflecting his lasting impact on the club and the wider football community.
The club has extended its condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
